What is piloxing and why is it good for you?
What is piloxing?
Piloxing is a trend that has been brewing in the Netherlands since 2013, originating from Hollywood. It's a mix of Pilates, boxing, and dance. If you enjoy trying new sports, you should definitely give this blend of Pilates, boxing, and dance a try. A session consists of many movements and repetitions. The movements are timed to the music, alternating from slow to fast. You start slowly by warming up, performing simple steps, and boxing gently. Soon, the pace increases, incorporating plenty of arm movements, boxing, and footwork. The active moments are interspersed with more relaxed movements to keep you from getting out of breath.
To make the classes even more challenging, you can wear weighted gloves during the sessions, which also provides strength training. In a single class, you can burn 400 to 900 calories per hour. Not only will you lose weight, but your muscles will also become stronger!
Why is piloxing good for you?
Swedish creator Viveca Jensen's goal is to make you feel "sleek, sexy, and powerful." This is possible because Pilates focuses on exercises that promote flexibility, strength, and coordination. Boxing involves a lot of arm strength, and dance uses music to create a graceful movement. This combination can improve your fitness, build muscle, and, thanks to the many movements, burn calories.
Who is piloxing for?
Because many women have negative feelings about boxing, many women are practicing this mix of Pilates, boxing, and dance. However, this isn't an excuse for men, as they're just as good at this sport! If you're a beginner and not very fit, Pilates can be challenging because it involves non-stop interval training. If you have some athletic experience and have built a reasonably to strong physique, this mix is ideal!
