THE ACUPRESSURE MAT:

WHAT IT IS AND WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE BUYING AN ACUPRESSURE MAT

Do you suffer from stiff and tense muscles, sleep restlessly, have trouble relaxing, and could use some peace of mind? Then a nail mat is the solution for you!

A acupressure mat, also called a nail mat, has specific pressure points that stimulate different parts of the body. These pressure points, derived from ancient Asian massage techniques, are evenly distributed across the mat and apply targeted pressure to different parts of the body. In fact, with an acupressure mat, you get the benefits of 1,000 massages for the price of one!

An example of an Acupressure mat that we have in our range are the mats from the brand Flowee and have 210 octagonal spikes with 42 sharp ends. The nail mat has a total of more than 8820 unique pressure points. The mats of the brand Shakti have an average of 6000 spikes, but this depends on the intensity of the mat.

The "sharp" pressure points prick your skin when you lie on the mat. This stimulates the numerous nerve endings in your skin, activating blood circulation. Curious about what an acupressure mat can do for you? Then read on!

Use the acupressure mat and experience immediate relaxation!

What does an acupressure mat do?

When using an acupressure mat, your body comes into contact with thousands of strategically placed pressure points across the mat. But what exactly does an acupressure mat do for your body?

These mats stimulate the production of endorphins and oxytocin, natural "feel-good" hormones that contribute to a positive sense of well-being. Besides promoting these hormones, the acupressure mat also optimizes circulation, relieves energy blockages, relaxes muscles, reduces pain, and promotes both physical and mental relaxation. Acupressure mats are a widely used alternative therapy for pain relief, relaxation, and promoting a good night's sleep. Experience the different phases of using an acupuncture mat.

Lying on those sharp 'needles' might feel a bit intense at first, but give it a little time – your body will thank you in the end.

In that first phase, you might experience a tingling, unfamiliar sensation you might want to resist. But if you persevere, that feeling transforms into a wonderfully warm tingling sensation, known as the super-addictive "acupuncture tingle." And after just 20 minutes, the ultimate reward awaits – a full-body experience that melts away tension and prepares you for a wonderful, deep sleep.

How the acupressure mat can help your back

The spike mat is truly a winner when it comes to back pain. The back is the area with many nerves and muscles that connect to other parts of the body. Super easy to use: simply throw the mat on your bed just before bed. This not only promotes deeper sleep but also gives you a better night's sleep*. Place the mat over your pillow so it comfortably fits your neck and shoulders. Or use a handy spike mat pillow. Sit in front of the mat, place your hands beside the mat, and slowly roll back.

Did you know that an acupressure mat isn't just suitable for back pain, but also for relieving other aches and pains? Handy, right? For the optimal experience, it's important to choose a firm surface. The firmer the surface, the more intense the acupressure experience. Place the mat, sit on the underside, and gently lie down on the mat, covering your entire back with the pressure points. And if back pain is a known problem for you, an acupressure mat can really help in a positive way.

How the acupressure mat can help your neck and shoulders

The acupressure mat isn't just good for your back and abdomen; you can also use it to relax your neck and shoulders. Lay the mat flat and rest your upper back on it, so the pressure points stimulate your shoulders. Using an acupressure pillow can be a smart addition.

While lying on the mat with your shoulders resting on it, place the pillow behind your neck. This not only relaxes your shoulders but also relieves tension in your neck. Many people experience knots and tension in their neck, so using the acupressure pillow can significantly help reduce muscle tension and pain. And the good news is that you can use the acupressure pillow not only in conjunction with the mat, but also on its own.

How the acupressure mat can help your feet

Tired, aching, or cold and stressed feet after a long day? No worries! The nail mat is there to help you get rid of your ailments. Using it promotes blood circulation and can provide relief. You can stand on the mat; it's helpful to keep your socks on, especially at first. But you can also apply pressure with your feet while sitting on the couch or chair. When sitting, the pressure from the points is less intense, which can help you gradually get used to the mat. You can use a small nail mat or the nail mat cushion for this.

If you want to use the acupressure mat for your feet, it is important that you place it on a stable and flat surface.

Pregnant and using an acupressure mat? Here's what to keep in mind

To use an acupressure mat safely during pregnancy, it's advisable to consult your doctor first for expert advice. Caution is advised when using the acupressure mat during pregnancy. The release of the happiness hormone oxytocin from the mat can induce labor, which isn't ideal in the early stages of pregnancy. If you are considering using the acupressure mat, we recommend proceeding with extreme caution and limiting its use to specific body parts, such as the feet and neck.

What do researchers say about the benefits of the acupressure mat?

Despite the many claims online about the benefits of the mats, research into this is still quite limited. Nevertheless, a small qualitative study A 2012 study found that acupressure mats can improve quality of life and comfort in people with neck and lower back pain, which is known to cause sleep problems.

And a study A 2014 study involving 32 people found that an acupressure mat helped participants feel more relaxed and had less pain, leading to better sleep for most participants.
